Sculpting in Sound

  • Bettenbender Plaza at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts 85 George St New Brunswick, NJ 08901 United States (map)

Sculpting in Sound is a free interdisciplinary performance by Rutgers University music and dance students as part of the MGSA 50th Anniversary's 50 Tiny Dances program on Saturday, May 2 at 4:00 PM in Bettenbender Plaza. Centered on The Four Arts sculpture by John Goodyear, the performance transforms the sculpture into a musical instrument through live sound, movement, and semi-improvised collaboration, with audience members invited to walk freely among the performers and experience the work from within as sound and gesture evolve in real time. This unique one-time event marks the first time the beloved campus landmark will be heard. Sculpting in Sound celebrates how community emerges through attentiveness to one another in a shared space.
